Commercial Hood Repair and Service
Pro-Serv Facility Solutions repairs and services commercial kitchen hoods, vent hoods, and exhaust systems for restaurants and food service buildings across North Carolina and South Carolina. When a hood stops pulling, an exhaust fan goes quiet, or a belt snaps in the middle of service, our technicians come out and get the kitchen ventilation running again. Technicians are on call 24 hours a day.
Pro-Serv no longer offers hood cleaning. We repair and service kitchen hood and exhaust systems. We do not clean hoods, ductwork, or exhaust fans.

What commercial hood and vent hood repairs does Pro-Serv handle?
Pro-Serv repairs every working part of a commercial kitchen hood and exhaust system: exhaust fans, belts, motors, bearings, controls, wiring, lights, filters, and the makeup air that feeds it. Most calls start the same way. The hood was working yesterday and it is not working today.
We start with what the hood is doing, then work back to the cause.
Exhaust fan repair. Rooftop and wall-mounted exhaust fans, belt-drive and direct-drive, that will not start, run rough, or have gotten loud.
Fan belt and pulley replacement. Worn, slipping, and broken belts replaced and pulleys realigned so the fan turns at full speed again.
Fan motor repair and replacement. Motors that hum without turning, overheat, cut out, or have quit.
Bearings and fan wheels. Worn bearings and damaged or out-of-balance fan wheels that cause grinding, rattling, and vibration.
Hood controls and switches. Switches, control panels, and starters that will not turn the hood on, will not turn it off, or cut in and out.
Electrical and wiring faults. Tripped breakers, failed connections, and wiring problems between the hood, the controls, and the fan.
Hood lights. Lights inside the hood that are out, flickering, or have damaged fixtures.
Hood filter replacement. Missing, bent, or damaged filters replaced so the hood captures the way it should.
Makeup air and supply fans. The hood only works when the air it pulls out is replaced. We repair the makeup air unit and supply fan and look at the commercial HVAC system alongside the hood.
Airflow and air balance problems. Hoods that run but do not capture, kitchens that run hot, and buildings where doors are hard to open.
The same technicians handle commercial kitchen equipment repair, so the cooking line under the hood and the hood itself can be looked at on one visit. We work with restaurants, multi-location chains, colleges and universities, grocery, hotels, hospitals, and convenience stores with food service.
How do I know my restaurant hood needs repair?
The usual signs are smoke or heat hanging in the kitchen, an exhaust fan that is louder than it used to be or has gone silent, and a hood that will not switch on. Most of these show up as small changes before the hood quits.
| What you notice | What is usually behind it |
| Smoke and heat hang over the cooking line | The fan is turning slowly or not at all. A slipping or broken belt is a common cause |
| The fan is loud, rattling, squealing, or shaking | A belt, a bearing, a fan wheel, or a motor on its way out |
| The hood will not turn on, or cuts in and out | The switch, the control, the wiring, or the motor |
| The hood lights are out or flickering | A failed fixture, bulb, or wiring fault |
| The kitchen stays hot and the doors are hard to open | The hood is pulling air out faster than makeup air is coming in |
| The dining room smells like the kitchen | The hood is not capturing what the line puts out, or the building is out of air balance |
A restaurant hood that is not pulling the way it used to is worth a call before it stops during service.
How does a commercial kitchen exhaust repair call work?
You tell us what the hood is doing, a technician finds the cause, and you get a price before the repair is made.
- Call or request service. Tell us what you are seeing: no airflow, noise, a hood that will not start.
- Diagnosis. A technician checks the hood, the controls, and the exhaust fan to find what actually failed.
- Quote. We tell you what is wrong and what it costs to fix after we have seen it, not before.
- Repair. The failed part is repaired or replaced, and we confirm the hood is pulling before we leave.
What does commercial vent hood repair cost?
Commercial vent hood repair cost depends on what failed, the size of the fan, how easy it is to reach, and whether the call is an emergency. Pro-Serv quotes after a technician has seen the problem, because the same symptom can have different causes.
What moves the price:
- What failed. A belt, a filter, or a light is a small repair. A motor, a control, or a fan wheel is a bigger one.
- The fan. Larger fans and larger motors cost more to repair.
- Access. A fan that is hard to reach on the roof takes longer.
- Parts. Common parts are quick. Unusual ones may need to be ordered.
- Timing. An after-hours emergency call is priced differently than a scheduled visit.

My hood cleaning company found a problem. Can Pro-Serv fix it?
Yes. Hood cleaning crews are often the first to notice a worn belt, a noisy fan motor, or a fan that is not turning the way it should, because they are on the roof and inside the system. If the problem is a fan, a belt, a motor, a bearing, a control, or a damaged filter, Pro-Serv can repair it.
Tell us what was flagged when you call. A photo or a copy of the cleaning report helps the technician arrive with the right parts.
Does Pro-Serv still offer hood cleaning?
No. Pro-Serv no longer offers hood cleaning. That includes cleaning of hoods, ductwork, and exhaust fans.
Hood cleaning is still something every commercial kitchen has to keep up with. NFPA 96 sets how often a kitchen exhaust system has to be cleaned, from monthly to once a year depending on how much and what you cook. That work is done by a hood cleaning company.
What has not changed: we still repair and service hood and exhaust systems, and our preventative maintenance programs still cover maintenance and cleaning for the rest of your kitchen equipment.
How fast can a technician get to my kitchen?
Pro-Serv dispatches from branches in New Bern, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Charlotte, and technicians are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A kitchen with no working exhaust usually cannot cook, so call as soon as the hood goes down.
Repairs that can wait are scheduled around your operating hours.

Why use one company for the hood, the HVAC, and the kitchen equipment?
A hood problem is often not only a hood problem. Exhaust, makeup air, HVAC, and the cooking equipment all affect one another, and Pro-Serv works on all of them.
With separate vendors, the first hour of a call goes to working out whose problem it is. With Pro-Serv, the technician who repairs the exhaust fan works for the same company that handles HVAC, kitchen equipment repair, equipment sales, preventative maintenance, and commercial pressure washing.
Pro-Serv is a CFESA certified company. One account, one service number, and one team that already knows the building.
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Exhaust fan repair is most of what a commercial hood repair call turns out to be. That covers the fan itself, the belt and pulleys, the bearings, the fan wheel, and the motor, on rooftop and wall-mounted fans.
Do you service kitchen ventilation beyond the hood?
Yes. Pro-Serv repairs the makeup air unit and supply fan and works on the commercial HVAC system as well as the hood and exhaust fan. In a kitchen they all depend on one another.
Do you offer 24-hour emergency hood repair?
Yes. Pro-Serv technicians are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call (910) 650-3721 to reach a technician.

Yes. Pro-Serv preventative maintenance programs can include the hood system alongside cooking equipment, refrigeration, and HVAC. That means checking the fan, the belt, and the motor on a schedule. It does not include hood cleaning.
Do you install new hoods?
Not at this time. Pro-Serv repairs and services existing hood and exhaust systems.
